Jane Schmauss, Historian
Jane Schmauss is one of the founding members of the California Surf Museum and a major figure in its development. Over the past 24 years, Jane has
served CSM as a volunteer, a Board Director, Board President, and now enjoys her position as Historian. Currently she is at work on a series of oral
histories with many of the seminal pioneers in the sport. A San Diego native and graduate of San Diego State University, she has helped develop and edit
Surfing San Diego, a book on the region’s surfing history. Schmauss also heads the CSM docent program serving as one of the museum’s most
knowledgeable tour guides. She loves the fact that people from all over the globe come into this unique museum spreading the stoke of surfing. Jane
credits her son with teaching her the remarkable impact surfing has had on the California lifestyle and the world.
Julie Cox, Operations Manager
Julie Cox is CSM’s Operations Manager, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the exhibits, events and administrative staff. A professional surfer, she
has competed in contests around the globe, consistently placing in the top 10 of international events held in France, Australia, New Zealand, California and
Japan. In 2007, 2008 and 2009, Julie placed 5th in the ASP Women's World Longboard Championships. Born in 1980 and raised inland of Malibu, in
Agoura Hills, she moved to Oceanside where she traveled back and forth to work in Mexico as a surf instructor at Las Olas Surf Safaris. She holds a BA in
Environmental Studies from University of California at Santa Cruz, as well as massage therapy credentials. Julie also has created “The Jule Collection,” a
line of surfboards designed for women shaped by Jed Noll.
Todd Quinn, Museum Store Supervisor & Buyer
Buyer for the museum store, Todd Quinn is responsible for the merchandising and marketing of all museum products. Born in the City of Orange in 1969,
Todd was brought up in San Clemente and spent much of his youth surfing at T Street. He graduated with a B.S. from Northern Arizona University in 1997,
after which he did social work with Access for Independence of San Diego, a nonprofit organization assisting people with disabilities. He started a property
management company specializing in beach-front rentals, as well as becoming an accomplished photographer. Currently living in Oceanside, Todd is a
frequent visitor in the local lineup north of Wisconsin Street. He is also employed by Recreation Equipment Inc. (REI) and enjoys backpacking and cycling,
year around. Quinn is single, and in his own words “looking for a rad wife.”
Tom Glenn, Associate
Born and raised in Manhattan Beach, Tom started surfing at the pier about 1957. In 1969 traveling to surf in North Africa and Europe, he met Wavy Gravy
and the Hog Farm of Woodstock fame. They decided to make the pilgrimage to Asia, driving across Central Asia to Kathmandu, Nepal. He established a
factory for Tibetan refugees where he designed and manufactured traditional Tibetan tents and Tibetan carpets for 12 years. Tom returned to the states with
his Tibetan wife and 2 children, settling in Oceanside in 1985 and starting T.G. Graphics Productions, a screenprinting business. He opened the Waterman
Surf Art Gallery and served on the Board of Directors of the Surf Museum from 1992 to 1995. He currently serves as a curator and staff member for the
museum and still manages T.G. Graphics doing digital imaging and large format printing.
