Mission Statement
The California Surf
Museum serves as an
international repository and
resource center on the
lifestyle sport of surfing
through capturing,
preserving, and chronicling
its art, culture and heritage
for the education and
enjoyment of future
generations.
The exhibit portrays a decade-by-decade depiction of
highlights and achievements of many of the most
significant female wave warriors in documented
history.
Come on by and celebrate along with the
legends, from Eve Fletcher to Linda Benson,
Linda Merrill to Jericho Poppler, Joyce Hoffman
to Jen Smith
Two dozen significant boards, several trophies,
bathing suits, and contest memorabilia have been brought
in to tell their story. Many of these women had to overcome
using heavy, unwieldy boards and uncomfortable bathing
attire in order to pursue the sport they loved so well.
Find out who was the first woman to win the U.S.Open, the
first to be on the cover of Surfer Magazine, the first to surf
Pipeline, the first to turn pro, or the first female tow-in
surfer.
Women on Waves a celebration of women in surfing runs
through 2010 . More info here
The exhibit’s compilation of swimwear not only
traces the styles in women’s attire, but documents
the evolution of freedom and achievement
attained over the last century as well.
