KONA BREWING HELPS RAISE $5,000 FOR 2010 PROGRAMS AT THE CALIFORNIA SURF
MUSEUM
Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawaii, June 21 — With their partnership newly in place
for 2010, Kona Brewing Company raised almost $5,000 in gross proceeds for the
California Surf Museum at the June 12th Liquid Aloha Festival. The annual event
took place on The Strand in Huntington Beach, CA and served as a kick-off for OC
Weekly’s summer guide. No admission was charged to the 2,000 people who attended
the live music festival, but beer sales to those 21 and up amounted to several
thousand dollars funding future programs and exhibits for the California Surf
Museum. Seven bands and DJs at Liquid Aloha Festival entertained people
throughout the day.
“The Liquid Aloha Festival was a great testimony to a new partnership already working,” said Jim Kempton, museum president and
director of media for Billabong USA. “Kona Brewing has a great quality product that pairs perfectly with the tastes of our audience.
We could have chosen a number of beverage partners, but Kona Brewing matches us the best in mind and spirit, and I’m happy to
have seen so many enjoying it at the Liquid Aloha Festival and our museum events as well.”
As well as exhibits, one of the programs the contributions will fund in 2010 includes a newly written program for visiting elementary
school students. Kempton points out that the program needs to be consistently renewed to make it relevant, educational and
interesting to their grade level. The program also needs to speak to surfing being an integral part of the cultural fabric of Southern
California, as well as a culture the children can embrace and learn more about.
Kona Brewing is Hawaii’s largest brewer and was recently named the Official Beer Sponsor of the California Surf Museum. Both
companies share a mutual respect for each others’ commitment to sustainability and love of water, as well as a shared dedication to
preserving surfing history and the surf lifestyle in California, Hawaii and across the globe.

Kona Brewing Company was started in the spring of 1994 by a father and son team that had a dream to create fresh, local island brews made with spirit,
passion and quality. It is a Hawaii-born and Hawaii-based craft brewery that prides itself on brewing the freshest beer of exceptional quality, closest to
market. This helps to minimize its carbon footprint by reducing shipping of raw materials, finished beer and wasteful packaging materials. Recently Kona
announced the installation of a 229 kW solar energy generating system at its Kailua-Kona brewery and pub on Hawaii’s Big Island. The company is
headquartered where it began, in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island. It has grown into Hawaii’s largest brewery, has three restaurant sites in Hawaii and
beer distribution reaching 28 states and Japan. The brewery was named the fastest growing top-50 craft brewing company in the country based on 2008
sales figures. It posted 19.8 percent year over year growth in 2009. For more information call 808-334-BREW or visit www.KonaBrewingCo.com.
